How to become a Product Analyst
Overview
Be the analytical partner to the product team — turn product usage data, experiment results, and qualitative signal into the evidence the roadmap actually moves on.
Product teams ship more experiments, more features, and more AI-driven surfaces, and they need someone who can pair a working knowledge of the product with a working knowledge of the data. The WEF Future of Jobs 2025 places analytical thinking at the top of rising core skills, and BLS Operations Research Analyst growth is 21% (2024–34). AI now drafts the SQL and the first chart; the analyst's edge is the framing, the experiment, and the recommendation the PMs and leadership can defend.
What AI changes
What AI accelerates
First-pass SQL, dashboard scaffolding, experiment-readout drafts, funnel and cohort analyses, and summarising qualitative feedback at scale.
What stays human
Framing the question, choosing the right metric, designing the experiment, defending the recommendation when it gets challenged, and pairing with PMs on the call.
AI drafts SQL, builds a first version of the funnel chart, and summarises experiment results; the product analyst's edge is framing the question, choosing the right experiment, and translating the finding into a recommendation the product team will actually act on. Pairing with AI makes a strong product analyst measurably more effective.
Day to day
Pull and shape product usage data, run a funnel or cohort analysis, design or analyse an A/B test, write up an experiment readout, partner with a PM on the recommendation, and update a product-health dashboard.
